The Patreon Community

With just a little more than a month away from my fourth book release, the giddiness just thinking about it escalates ever so slightly as each day crawls closer.

This book, however, is a bigger milestone for me than simply being another publication in the notch of my literary belt. It represents, among a handful of other things, my reemergence from a five year writing hiatus. My last book was released back in 2012 and, knowing my writing will see the light of day again (not counting social media posts), is a pretty significant step.

Breathe” also signifies my step toward intentionally embracing my poetic gift and making strides to take my poetry and spoken word to a more full time effort.

I’ve been writing more. I’ve been reciting more. I’ve been engaged in my art with more intentionality.

Having said that, in the spirit of taking my art more seriously, I’ve also taken the dive and have decided to join a greater cohort of creatives through an online crowd funding community called Patreon. In short, Patreon provides a platform for creatives, like myself, to let their fans subscribe and fund their ongoing work.

My desire is to publish more books on a more consistent basis (hopefully every six months), while curating poetry events for you to attend that’ll feature, not only me, but some of the great poets and spoken word artists of our day. I also intend to produce audio versions of my work for all of your listen pleasures.

These goals, of course, require funds.

This is where you come in!!!

I’ve set up different monthly subscription tiers on my Patreon Page that’ll get you various rewards in return. From gaining access to exclusive (for your eyes only) weekly poems to discounts on future books, each tier comes with some amazing perks. And, from $1 a month to $3 a month and from $5 a month to $10 a month, there’s a monthly financial level for every budget.

At the end of the day, it’s about creating a community around my art and poetry. It’s about you actually having a hand on helping me make this dream a reality. It’s about us working together in love.

So, thanks ahead of time!

I’m looking forward to serving you, while engaging on a poetic journey that’s going to prove to be fantastic.

LA Get Down Festival

We graced the stage.
We graced the stage that has been home to Da Poetry Lounge for the past two decades.
We graced the world renowned stage that became platform to the first ever LA Get Down Festival.

And it was amazing!

The Definitive Soap Box family and I had the humbled honor and privilege of showcasing our gifts and passions to an audience of nearly 100 poetry enthusiasts. We represented a wide range of emotions and current issues from parenthood to political plights. And our Long Beach homegrown band, The Black Noise, even got into the mix belting out their mesmerizing soulful sounds of soothing vocals and eerie electrical guitar accompaniment.

But the grace and blessing was truly the other way around. We were greatly gifted with an opportunity to share the stage with a handful of heavy hitters in the poetry landscape.  From Aman K. Batra to Alyesha Wise and from Yesika Salgado to Angie Aguirre (of Chingona Fire), the amalgamation between these fantastic females and our Soap Box family produced words that intertwined into performance pieces that made for a sensational evening.

Donning Da Poetry Lounge stage, after taking a few years off from intentionally seeking out opportunities to perform, was a great way of injecting me back into the stream of Spoken Word.

It’s a new season for me and I’m extremely excited for what’s to come.
